Ukraine’s Courage

Two years ago russia invaded Ukraine attempting to destroy our statehood.

Some international media outlets have recently generated dubious analytics implying that Ukraine’s resistance to russian military aggression is becoming questionable.

Key consideration for this grim narrative is based on the lack of resources which allegedly could no longer be available for Ukraine. And if so, Ukrainians will be forced to start talking with russia on its terms under the assumption that our essential national interests could be compromised.

I want to put Ukrainian message straight: this is not going to happen. And let me explain why.

First of all and most importantly, Ukrainian people totally reject any concessions of sovereignty and territorial integrity. We are historically united proudly preserving the code of national identity and will not trade off our land this way depriving many generations of Ukrainians from future perspectives.

Secondly, international community consistently stands in support of Ukraine based on the UN Charter. It constitutes over 140 countries signing up relevant resolutions and providing political, economic and military assistance in line with their national agenda and cultural peculiarities. That is about 75% of the whole world saying clearly and loudly that russia is wrong and must immediately adhere to international law.

Next argument is as much as russia wanted to destroy our well-being, as much we adapted and transformed our economy to defend the country and sustain our people. We prevented economic downfall, marking the year-on-year GDP growth, specifically in January-November 2023 at 5.5%. This macroeconomics features our gradual convergence with the European Union in the scope of overall state integration process.

Our agriculture sector is leading the way: 81 million tons harvested in grain and oil crops, of which 50 million tons were supplied to the global food market. Ukraine opened more than 30 new destinations for domestic products thus proving our historical reputation as a food security guarantor.

Foreign exchange market of Ukraine and its national currency stood unbeaten in the face of the challenges present; tax revenues grew by 27%; individual entrepreneurship raised by over 20%; inflation level dropped to 5,1%.

Vital point to underline is that Ukrainian foreign policy is making its own way with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy Peace Formula remaining the only realistic and comprehensive plan to restore territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Presidents of Ukraine and Switzerland recently agreed to launch inaugural Global Peace summit on the level of state and government leaders. Presidential team led by Andrii Yermak aims at setting forth the mechanisms and principles needed to move further with a universally approved vision paving the way to just peace in the world.

Ukraine’s courage makes Russia itself learn hard lessons after strategic mistake it perpetrated two years ago. Whatever russian propaganda says, the facts tell otherwise. Today aggressor country remains under the pressure of international sanctions packages imposed, standing out as the most compartmentalized regime in the world. Russia appears to be internally not stable while being forced into relations with countries which are violently breaching international law. Its much-advertised military is being largely hit and devastated by Ukrainian Armed Forces leaving no chance on the battlefield.

Many tragic developments we witness today around the Globe could be traced to russian military aggression against Ukraine. The recipe to return world security and stability is as straight as it could be.

Ukraine must further be powerfully supported because our cause is right.

Those who perpetrated war crimes must be held accountable because international law must prevail.

International good will and unity should be enforced to ensure economic recovery of Ukraine thus, inter alia, positively reflecting on food security, investment opportunities and equal benefits to peaceful nations from latest technology developments.

These above arguments are not exhaustive but surely if combined would make our joint story of victory real.
