Trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Yemen has traditionally not been characterized by regularity and activity. At the same time, in 2021, the upward trend in trade between the two countries persisted.
According to Ukrainian statistics, trade turnover in goods between Ukraine and the Republic of Yemen in 2021 amounted to USD 246,51 million. Ukrainian exports totaled USD 243,9 million (increased by 41,3% compared to 2020 volume), imports from Yemen made up USD 2,61 million (+1107,4%). Trade balance was USD 241,3 million in favour of Ukraine.
Ukrainian exports consisted mainly of cereals (84,6%), fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin (7,4%), sugar and confectionery (2,2%), cocoa and cocoa products (2%) and others.
The bulk of Yemeni imports to Ukraine was formed by plastics and polymeric materials (99,6%).

It should be noted that in the context of the acute humanitarian crisis, the reduction of the grain harvest and food security of the European Union in recent years has significantly increased the import of Ukrainian grain (the basis of domestic exports). It is projected that this trend will continue.
In 2021, the upward trend in exports of fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin, sugar, confectionery, cocoa and cocoa products to Yemen persisted.
The Ukrainian side is ready to continue to join the food security of Yemen and the implementation of plans for its post-war reconstruction (in the fields of infrastructure and electricity), the provision of educational services to students from Yemen in higher education institutions of Ukraine.
According to data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in January 2022 trade turnover in goods between Ukraine and Yemen amounted to USD 35,49 million. Ukrainian exports totaled USD 35, 06 million, Yemeni imports – USD 0,432 million.
