Ukraine welcomes the decision of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on a unilateral ceasefire in Yemen.

This step is considered in Ukraine to be an important advancement to restore confidence between the sides of confrontation and in a further perspective to achieve a political settlement of the lingering conflict and to establish the long-awaited peace.

Due to the joint international countering of a new global threat - COVID-19 pandemic, it is important that the parties to the conflict, in particular the Houthi forces, should be aware of their responsibility to preserve health and life of their compatriots. Therefore a complete ceasefire and cessation of all acts of violence in Yemen should become the first manifestation of this effort.

Ukraine supports mediation efforts of Martin Griffiths, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, on the settlement of the conflict in Yemen, based on the Security Council resolutions, in particular resolution 2216 (2015), and underlines an important role of the UN Mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement.
